November Meeting

E-mail Print PDF

Hello,

This month we have another excellent opportunity as we have two presenters from Microsoft.  Geoff Choi will focus on App-V, formerly called Soft Grid, and talk about how this will revolutionize the way we currently deploy software.  Tim Benjamin will then focus on the integration of App-V in SCCM R2 and compare the different integration paths that we will all have to consider.  Do you use the App-V streaming capabilities in R2 or do you consider the full blown App-V Management Servers in your environment.  Microsoft has made great strides with App-V, so don't miss out on an opportunity to get up to speed quickly.

Please note that we are meeting on a WEDNESDAY this month, 11/19, due to scheduling difficulties.  We will be at the Microsoft Office in Bloomington.  Pizza and Beverages will be provided starting at 4:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 5:00 p.m. and typically ends no later than 7:30.

Please use the link below to sign up for the event so we know how much pizza to order.

Hi Brian!

First, I apologize for the unsolicited email.  I stumbled upon your site while looking for a consultant for a Systems Architect with SCCM experience.  Given your background and experience, I thought you might be a good person to ask for a referral.

The opportunity is long term contract, with the potential of going full time with a very prestigious organization located here in the Twin Cities.  The Systems Architect will act as Architect for the Operational Aspects. create System Level Design, work=s collaboratively across teams (Network Operations, Software Development, Software Architecture, Infrastructure Engineering) to ensure that the architecture and design implemented is supportable, reliable, efficient and meets the Operational requirements for Performance and Availability.

If you know anyone who is looking for a new opportunity, with the applicable background, please feel free to forward my contact information.

Thank you for your time and assistance.  If there is ever any way I can be of assistance to you, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

September Meeting Notes

In the September meeting, we got a surprise visit from Anthony Clendenen (MVP) from 1e. Anthony gave us a quick overview of the upcoming features soon to be released in Nomad 3.0. Thanks Anthony!

Then Sherry Kissinger (MVP) drove in from Milwaukee to give us all the info we could ever want to know about inventory, extending the inventory, mofs, etc. The links to her PPT are below, but as always, the Q&A is always the best part. This is really the best part of these local meetings and why you want to be there in person. Thanks again for coming out Sherry!

Finally, Tim Benjamin from Microsoft gave us the bad news - his position at Microsoft now precludes him from buying the beer and pizza at future meetings. So that means we'll have to lean on future speakers for that if at all possible. When John Nelson and I spoke, we were able to get Wells to foot the bill for that one. Hopefully, we'll get others to do the same.

I think we decided to just have a round table discussion for the October meeting and R2 for November.

Transcender has a 40% off everything sale from 9/9-9/11. These are great practice tests because they offer so much detail on the subject. And links for more detail too.

August Meeting Notes

In the August meeting, we elected officers for a one year term. Tim Benjamin withdrew his name because the demands of his new job at Microsoft are more pressing than ever. He did a great job as our first president and we hope to see him attend meetings when he can. He has a wealth of knowledge on many subjects and is fun to talk to.

So elected were:

  • President - Joey Gleason
  • Vice President - Manoj Shah
  • Webmaster - Brian Mason
  • Meeting and Event Manager - nobody (hey, someone volunteer and help!)
  • Sergeant at Arms - John Nelson

Joey's PPT can be downloaded here. During the meeting, I mentioned a Microsoft scalability paper. This is the link. (I still maintain that it's best not to offload SQL to another box!).

Oh, and thanks Ron Crumbaker from myITforum for attending too!
